    Description

If you appreciate decoys that can tell the story of the life that they have experienced, take a look at this one.  Found along the Mississippi River near Red Wing, Minnesota, it obviously had a full life of hunting the marshes in that area.  I wish it could talk!!
In as found condition, this bird is a marriage of an original paint premier drake body and an original paint, third grade drake mallard head.  In spite of the combination, on this particular decoy, it works pretty well...at least until you can find an appropriate premier head.  Original paint on both the body and head has been heavily worn with numerous areas worn to wood.  It exhibits multiple tail chips and the body seam is visible, but not distracting in my opinion.   The bottom of the decoy appears to have been worn to bare wood with a pleasing patina, no weight or line ties are present.  The head is loose to the body and does reveal an original grooved dowel. There is no neck filler present.  Both glass eyes are missing.  Even with the wear and paint loss, there is enough paint left to identify this decoy and show the quality of the original painting and carving.
If you are looking for a decoy to enter into the next
    derelict
completion or just enjoy reflecting on untold stories from the duck blind, you will not be disappointed with this old block.
Please take a look at my photos as they are an important part of the description.  What appears to be a double image is actually a shadow, my photography skills are showing:)  Good luck.
