Description
Extremely rare due to age, condition, collectability, and lack of availability is nearly a complete service for 6 in Vernon Kilns American made ceramic pottery dishware designed by Artist, Don Blanding in the pattern of Coral Reef and each piece is signed by Artist. Made between 1938-1942, this near mint set is a HUGE find for the collector of this artist or American made manufacturer. There are a total of 29 pieces included: six dinner plates, six bread and butter dishes, six dessert bowls, six cup saucers and 1 large vegetable bowl all in mint condition. No cracks, chips, crazing, or any other signs of normal wear. There are 4 coffee/tea cups with one having a small stain/crazing appearance only on the inside of the cup (please see picture). I believe this flaw in the cup was part of the manufacturing process, and not returned by the original owner. This very rare set has been stored for many years, and hence is the reason for its fine condition. Condition is mint never used! You can sometimes pick up a cup on Replacements.com, Ebay, or Etsy, Bonanza Marketplace, Rubylane, etc., but this collection is a diamond in the rough for the treasure hunter! To strictly be sold as a set, questions or inquiries are gladly anticipated. The fortunate buyer of this set will have the peace of mind in knowing that each piece will be carefully packed and guaranteed by UPS pack and ship, and insurance purchased to cover the amount of the set, buyer to pay for shipping or local free pickup is offered too. I will not know the exact weight, number of boxes, or shipping cost until packed at UPS. I have estimated 0 for shipping and insurance. I will refund the cost difference if it is less. My goal is for you to receive your pottery in the fine condition that it is currently in.

Vernon Kilns "Aloha Don Blanding"
Blanding's paintings often portray undersea views, flowers and branches. Underwater Scene, from 1927-30, demonstrates his use of sharp outlines and lack of shading. His ink drawings are a powerful part of his many literary publications. From 1938 to 1942, Don Blanding designed Hawaiian themed tableware for Vernon Kilns, near Los Angeles, California. The patterns he designed are Aquarium, Coral Reef, Delight, Ecstasy, Glamour, Hawaii, Hawaiian Flowers, Hilo, Honolulu, and Lei Lani.
Picture
Vernon Kilns "Hawaiian Flowers" pattern by Don Blanding. Inspired by the profusion of magnificent flowers on the Hawaiian Islands. The backstamp shows the pattern name, along with the signature, "Aloha Don Blanding."
During the late 1930's & well into the 1940's America had a fascination with tropical design & décor. During World War II, U.S. military families were stationed at Pearl Harbor. They bought Hawaiian furniture & fixtures, as it was too expensive to ship traditional heavy wooden furniture to Hawaii. Don Blanding was hired in 1936 by California-based Vernon Kilns to design Hawaiian styled patterns for a line of dinnerware to compliment the tropical furniture.
